Scottish politics from a female, LibDem perspective
Hello and welcome to the world as seen through the eyes of Christine Jardine. Hopefully you’ll find it reasonable, intelligent and occasionally entertaining. Although I’ll be writing a fair bit about politics there will also be the odd personal insight, sporting references and mild rant at the X-Factor results in the run-up to Christmas.
For now I am off to catch up on the first few hours of the Independence debate – yes we are going to have a referendum. Over the next two years we will all have questions to ask, and in some cases to answer.
Today the UK Government delivered on its promise to empower the Scottish Parliament to hold a referendum on Indepndence. Michael Moore’s policy has ensured that this process will not be controlled by extremists on either side, or mired in years of legal argument over who can hold the referendum but will be up to us, the people of Scotland to decide whether we continue to develop and strengthen our role in the UK or take Alex Salmond’s monumental gamble on our future.
